Netflix announced the official release date for its upcoming live-action Resident Evil series, giving fans a taste of what's to come with a series of sinister posters.

The show, which is simply titled Resident Evil, will be available to stream on July 14. Netflix also unveiled a brief synopsis of what viewers can expect, explaining that the series is set in 2036 and will follow protagonist Jade Wesker as she fights to survive against a never-ending horde of zombies. Beyond the post-apocalyptic violence, Jade will be forced to confront her past in New Raccoon City and the tragic fate of her sister Billie while also being haunted by the shadow of her father, the iconic villain Albert Wesker.

"The all-new series expansion brings the best of the Resident Evil DNA forward - bad-ass heroines, insane creatures (some new/some familiar), a battle for survival and of course, a deep mystery to unravel," reads the official description of the show. "Andrew Dabb (Supernatural) expands the directions with fresh storytelling, bone chilling horror and an action-packed spectacle perfect for summer binging."

The live-action Resident Evil series will star Lance Reddick as the sinister Albert Wesker alongside the talents of Ella Balinska, Tamara Smart, Siena Agudong, Adeline Rudolph and Paola Nuñez. Much like the many adaptations of Capcom's beloved survival horror series, the show will tell an original story that isn't based on any of the video games. It's currently unknown whether franchise heroes like Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine and Claire Redfield will make an appearance.

While Resident Evil will be Netflix's first live-action adaption of the games, the streaming platform is no stranger to the creepy, zombie-infested world. 2021 saw the release of Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, an animated series following secret agent Leon S. Kennedy as he attempts to expose a major conspiracy surrounding the use of a dangerous bioweapon. The show debuted to mixed reviews from fans and critics alike, many of whom praised the knowingly ridiculous action while lamenting the dull narrative and wooden characters.

Resident Evil also received another live-action adaptation in the form of Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City in 2021. The action-horror film condensed the events of the first two games into a single story and despite some fun sequences, didn't do enough to impress long-time fans of the franchise.

Resident Evil debuts on Netflix on July 14.
