Actor Will Smith's behavior at the 94th Academy Awards ceremony continues to harm his film career, with streaming giant Netflix now seemingly putting some distance between itself and the actor.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix has pushed Smith's upcoming action film, Fast and Loose, closer to the bottom of its list of priorities. This comes shortly after Smith struck comedian Chris Rock on stage at the Oscars. Prior to the incident, the streaming giant was reportedly competing with Universal Pictures to be the next project for director David Leitch. After the director withdrew from Fast and Loose, Netflix put out an urgent call for a replacement. The project is reportedly no longer a priority and has been put on "the back burner."

Fast and Loose centers on a crime boss who loses his memory after an attack and eventually discovers he has lived a double life as both a drug kingpin and a CIA agent. It is unknown whether or not Smith will be replaced or if another director will be attached in the near future. This is not the first film reportedly affected by Smith's actions. Reports suggest the fourth instalment in the Bad Boys franchise has been put on pause while the fallout from the Oscars settles.

Smith has since offered public apologies to both Chris Rock and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which he recently resigned from. In his resignation announcement, Smith stated, "My actions at the 94th Academy Awards presentation were shocking, painful, and inexcusable... The list of those I have hurt is long and includes Chris, his family, many of my dear friends and loved ones, all those in attendance, and global audiences at home." He continued, "I betrayed the trust of the Academy... I deprived other nominees and winners of their opportunity to celebrate and be celebrated for their extraordinary work. I am heartbroken."

To Rock himself, Smith released a statement on social media, explaining, "Jokes at [his] expense are part of the job, but a joke about [Jada Pinkett Smith's] medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally... I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be." Rock has not responded directly to Smith, though he has commented on the incident.

Fellow actors continue to criticize Smith's behavior, as well as the Academy and the crowd present at the Oscars ceremony for their apparent inaction. Smith returned to his seat following the slap and was able to accept an award and give a speech less than an hour later, after which Smith received a standing ovation.
