The cast of David E. Kelley’s Wonder Woman revival is quickly coming together with the additions of Tracie Thoms and Pedro Pascal.
The NBC pilot is described as a reinvention of the superheroine (played by Adrianne Palicki), who’s recast as Diana Themyscira, a successful corporate executive who fights crime in Los Angeles as Wonder Woman while trying to balance the elements of her extraordinary life.
The Live Feed confirms that Thoms, who’s best known for her roles in Cold Case and Rent, will portray Diana’s personal assistant Etta Candy, while Deadline reports that Pascal (The Good Wife) play Ed Indelicato, a police officer devoted to Wonder Woman. They join model-turned-actress Elizabeth Hurley, who’ll play villainous scientist and businesswoman Veronica Cale, as long as visa issues work out.
Etta Candy is one of Wonder Woman’s oldest supporting characters, having debuted in February 1942’s Sensation Comics #2 as a malnourished woman. When next shown, she was the rotund, sweets-loving character who became a staple of Wonder Woman’s Golden Age adventures. She virtually disappeared in the 1960s only to be resurrected in the 1980 and again in the post-Crisis Wonder Woman revamp, in which she married Steve Trevor. In more recent years, she’s been depicted as an intelligence officer and confidant of Wonder Woman.
Ed Indelicato also has roots in DC Comics, having been introduced in April 1988’s Wonder Woman #15 as a Boston police inspector who befriended Diana shortly after her arrival in Patriarch’s World.
