On the heels of the leaked behind-the-scenes photo, NBC has released the first official image of Matt Ryan as DC Comics antihero John Constantine.

It's worth noting that although Executive Producer David S. Goyer recently confessed he's still "negotiating" with the network about the character's signature cigarette, the Welsh actor -- sporting a trenchcoat and skinny tie -- is encircled by smoke in this photo.

"I've been a fan of John Constantine since he was first introduced in 1985, Goyer said in a statement released with the image. "This Constantine, envisioned by Neil Marshall and embodied by Matt Ryan, looks like he sprang directly from the comics' covers. Fans old and new are going to be in for a treat."

According to the NBC description, "Constantine" "follows enigmatic and irreverent Liverpool con-man-turned-occult-detective John Constantine, who is reluctantly thrust into the role of defending our world against dark forces from beyond."

Ryan is joined in the pilot by Harold Perrineau, Charles Halford and Lucy Griffiths.
