More news came out today about The CW’s upcoming, untitled Nancy Drew series. According to a new report, Nancy’s father, Carson Drew, will be played by Freddie Prinze Jr.

The character is an attorney who has become estranged from his daughter after the death of his wife, according to The Hollywood Reporter. He attempts to reconnect with her, but fails to do so after her murder investigation turns up unsettling secrets from his past.

Prinze joins other actors like the late Luke Perry, Molly Ringwald, Skeet Ulrich and Madchen Amick as an '80s and '90s teen icon who has gone on to play a parent on one of the network’s shows.

The Nancy Drew series will also star Leah Lewis (Charmed), Tunji Kasim, Maddison Jaizani and Alex Saxon.

Larry Teng (Supergirl) will direct the pilot. Hsu Taylor (The Vampire Diaries) will serve as showrunner on the series. The official plotline released by The CW reveals that the show will center around Nancy Drew right after graduating from high school. After a family tragedy makes her defer her plans for college and keeps her in her hometown, she ends up involved in the investigation of a grisly murder that may have ties to deeper secrets.

There is currently no scheduled premiere date for the pilot or a potential follow-up series.
