Considering how simple they are, Inky, Blinky, Pinky and Clyde are among the most enduring characters in video-game history. Debuting in 1980 in "Pac-Man," the four ghosts have gone on to menace the game's ravenous yellow namesake for decades, even making the jump with him to merchandising and even Saturday-morning television.

Now, Bandai Namco is bringing "Pac-Man" to mobile devices with "Pac-Man Pop!," it wants to commemorate the occasion with the coronation of a new ghost. What's more, the company is inviting fans to help select the name of Pac-Man's latest enemy.

Sporting a headband, ponytail, sequins clothing and Pac-Man-shaped earring -- is she a fan or a foe? -- the ghost is described by Bandai Namco as "the most mischievous 'Pac-Man' character yet": "She’s smart, stylish, playful and brings tons of fun puzzles with her."

Bandai Namco is giving fans four choices for the name -- which is probably smart, considering what the internet might otherwise come up with, from the vile to the simply preposterous. (Boaty McBoatface, anyone?) The options are Winky, Bonnie, Violet and Dot.

The company takes its Pac-Man brand seriously, even having an executive with the title Chief Pac-Man Officer -- in this case Makoto Asanuma, who said in a statement,“By deciding her name, players can now make this character their own. Whether it’s Winky, Bonnie, Violet or Dot, she’ll be embraced as a new member of the Pac-Man family."

Fans can cast their vote on the Bandai Namco poll site.
