Up until now, audiences haven't gotten much info on the villain of Universal Studios' revamp of "The Mummy," Princess Ahmanet (Sofia Boutella). But a new featurette courtesy of SyFy Wire gives us our most in-depth look at Ahmanet yet.

In the featurette, viewers learn that Ahmanet was an ancient Egyptian princess that was promised the title of Pharaoh -- that is, until, she was violently entombed. Millenia later, she is unleashed, wanting to seek the power she was denied. We also learn that as the Mummy, Ahmanet goes through several transformations before she's in her final form -- the first being a literal mummified corpse dragging herself along the streets, feeding on what she can.

Much of the featurette focuses on the cinematic power of Boutella. "Sofia's perfectly cast as the Mummy," co-star Tom Cruise said. "Her soul is in her eyes," added director Alex Kurtzman, "and she can't hide it, and that's her gift."

Overall, the film promises us a sympathetic and intensely cool villain to watch and, maybe, even root for in this film.

The featurette also shows some exciting new footage from the film. Check it out for yourself:
