The featurette provided by Syfy Wire reveals Dr. Henry Jekyll as the head of an organization called Prodigium, a secret society dedicated to fighting monsters. Hiding in plain sight, Jekyll uses the Natural History Museum as his base of operations and to easily access historical resources.
Russell Crowe teases how Jekyll’s personal experience might make him well-suited in fighting against monsters. “There’s a lot to find out about Jekyll,” he said. “It’s not giving too much away to say that he has quite the clear understanding of evil.”
Crowe is of course referring to the character’s sinister alter-ego Mr. Hyde. Although brief, we get to see the Mr. Hyde in action as he menacingly approaches Nick Morton (Tom Cruise).
Directed by Alex Kurtzman, The Mummy will be the first film in the Universal Monsters shared universe, which will feature a new spin on the studio’s vast catalog of classic horror characters, including the Invisible Man, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and the Bride of Frankenstein.
Arriving June 9, The Mummy stars Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Courtney B. Vance and Russell Crowe.
