Fans have known since October that MTV's new "Scream" series wouldn't using the Ghostface mask made iconic by the film franchise, but it wasn't clear what might replace it -- until now.

Entertainment Weekly has unveiled the new look, which abandons the elongated cartoonishness of the original for something perhaps a little more chilling.

“It evokes some of the Jason hockey mask and the white Michael Myers mask," executive producer Jill Blotevogel tells EW, "but it’s still first and foremost evocative of the 'Scream' mask. It’s sort of a reinvention while also paying homage.”

Wes Craven adds, "The new mask is cool and scary and takes the series into a new direction. It also ties into the story, which I won’t give away.”

Premiering June 30, “Scream” stars Bella Thorne, Willa Fitzgerald, Amy Forsyth, John Karna, Carlson Young and Amadeus Serafini.
