We already took a look at TV in 2014, but what about the movies? What's coming out this year that needs to be on your radar? The short answer: a lot.

From superhero reunions to mythical monsters making a comeback, here are some of the big-ticket movie events to watch for in 2014.

The Hobbit Ends

Assuming Peter Jackson doesn't go there and back again for an out-of-nowhere fourth Hobbit film, then the road to Middle-earth ends in December with the trilogy-concluding There and Back Again. If you love the Hobbit movies, Part 3 is bound to be at the top of your to-watch list this year. If you hate the Hobbit movies, look on the bright side: By this time next year, it'll all be over.

Return of the X-Men

Bryan Singer hasn't been behind the lens of an X-Men movie since 2003's X2: X-Men United, but that all changes in just a few months. He's set to bring the casts of his first X-Men films and X-Men: First Class together in May's X-Men: Days of Future Past. Will it be an overstuffed train wreck, or a jam-packed two hours of unfiltered awesomeness? We'll find out in May!

Marvel Shoots For the Stars

Phase Two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues with two offerings this year: the stars and stripes of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and the stars and space bandits of Guardians of the Galaxy. Both of them star actors named Chris, both of them rely on critically acclaimed source material, and both of them are right at the very top of my most-anticipated movies of 2014.

Christopher Nolan Also Shoots For the Stars

With The Dark Knight trilogy behind him, Nolan can get back to business doing what he's most interested in: making universes of his own. Indeed, Nolan will make his own universe and explore it to its fullest in November's Interstellar, about space travelers and worm holes. It stars Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway, among others, and it's destined to be the best Nolan-directed movie that starts with an "I" since Inception.

Michael Bay Ruins Your Childhood (Again!)

2014 is already off to an auspicious start for the divisive director, following his awkward CES appearance earlier in the week. But the potential Bayhem is far from over, given that he has a new Transformers movie, subtitled Age of Extinction, hitting theaters in June. On top of that, the Bay-produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles makes its, ah, "anticipated" arrival later in the summer as well. If hating on Bay is your thing, then 2014 is the year for you.

Veronica Mars Becomes a Movie Star

Seven years after its series finale, Veronica Mars is poised for a comeback in 2014. Thanks to the completion of a record-setting Kickstarter campaign, creator Rob Thomas and star Kristen Bell made a Neptune reunion into a reality, with the full-fledged Veronica Mars movie bowing on March 14. Plan your "squee" allotments for the year accordingly.

Return of The Raid

Director Gareth Evans delivered one of the best action movies of 2011 in The Raid: Redemption, about an elite police officer named Rama who uses martial arts, light bulbs and other weapons to battle his way through a deadly apartment block. In just a few months (or in a few weeks if you're headed to Sundance), Evans continues The Raid with a sequel, titled Berandal. Action junkies have no reason to skip this one.

The King of All Monsters

Director Gareth Edwards (not to be confused with the aforementioned Gareth Evans) brought Monsters to the big screen in 2010, and this year, he gets to helm the king of them all: Godzilla, roaring into theaters in May. Come for the city-leveling rampage, stay for the Bryan Cranston, and be endlessly disappointed by the sad lack of Hank Azaria.

Comic-Con International 2014

There's a lot of excitement at the movies in 2014, but keep one eye on 2015. Next year sees the release of sequels to Avengers, Star Wars, Man of Steel, Jurassic Park, Terminator and more. You might as well get on line for Hall H now, considering how many casting announcements and trailers are likely headed to Comic-Con this year.
