The director of the "Mortal Kombat" movie reboot has offered an update on the feature film, and tell us when we can expect the trailer and official debut of the upcoming webseries, "Mortal Kombat: Generations."

Taking questions over Twitter, director Garrett Warren confirmed that the trailer for "Mortal Kombat: Generations" will release in early 2016, and follow-up with the actual series later that year.

@alexcampy89 it is scheduled to be released early next year.

"Mortal Kombat: Generations" will see the return of Casper Van Dien as Johnny Cage, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa as Shang Tsung, and Morgan Sticke as Cassie Cage -- all of whom played characters in the previous "Mortal Kombat" webseries from Machinima. The series is set to introduce characters from "Mortal Kombat X," the latest video game in the series.

As for the feature film -- which was rumored last summer to be produced by "Aquaman" and "Furious 7's" James Wan -- Warren offered the following confirmation that the project is still on track:

@wilmert2 the film using good hands and will be made.

The script is reportedly being written by "Mortal Kombat: Legacy's" Oren Uziel and "The Expendables'" Dave Callaham, and follows: "...a seemingly harmless guy who realizes his potential when he finds himself caught in the middle of a cross-dimensional battle between the warriors of Earth and the monsters of Outworld. Now, in order to stop the world from total destruction, he must win the martial arts tournament known as ‘Mortal Kombat'."

New Line -- the studio owned by "Mortal Kombat's" rights holder, Warner Bros. -- is producing the "Mortal Kombat" movie reboot.
