All this month I'll be reviewing different comic books by female creators, based on submissions from the actual creators of the comic books themselves. Here's a list of all the books featured so far this month.

We continue with Kennedy Cooke-Garza's Superbitch!

Superbitch is about a superhero known as, well, Superbitch. She is a hero-for-hire. She is joined by her sidekick/best friend Art Hobo, a broke art school graduate and her computer expert, Quinn.

Cooke-Garza updated the strip sporadically in 2011 and then somewhat more regularly in 2012 but beginning in 2013, she began regularly updating the strip at the end of April 2013 and she has held steady to a twice-a-week schedule ever since.

The strip generally is a mixture of satire (both of superhero conventions and topical political events) and just general dark humor, where Superbitch's poor behavior is the main joke in the strip.

Here's an example of her bad behavior being the hook...

Here's one of her satirizing the conventions of the genre...

And here's some then-topical political satire...

(It still works out of context, but I believe it was a then-topical reference to the Bill Nye/Creationist guy debate)

In general, the strip is self-contained, but along with her new regular schedule, Cooke-Garza has been experimenting with longer form narratives, as well (she did one really long story with Hipsters as zombies back in 2012). She did a good one on Superbitch's asshole former boyfriend (also a superhero) whose racism has forced him to go looking for work with Superbitch and an even better one on the Debt Collector, a villainous who preys on people like Art Hobo...

As you can see from the art, Cooke-Garza is a talented draftswoman, and her work has only gotten better as the series has gone along.

Superbitch might not be the type of strip for you as the jokes are often edgy, but if the samples I've shown you are not offensive to you, then I am sure you'll enjoy the rest of her strips. Check out her site here.
