All this month I'll be reviewing different comic books by female creators, based on submissions from the actual creators of the comic books themselves. Here's a list of all the books featured so far this month.

We're behind, so I'll be doubling up for the rest of the month!

We continue with Above the Clouds #1, written and drawn by Melissa Pagluica...

Above the Clouds is a lush, beautiful comic book about a young lovestruck girl who is ignored by the warrior that she is crushing on big time. She is then handed a book by his friend...

Her reading the book makes up the bulk of the first issue and as she reads the story we see her imagine the story and her imagination gives us a beautifully illustrated tale of a caretaker searching for a dragon...

It's a touching tale. The twist, of course, is that this sensitive tale is unfinished and was written BY the warrior who handed her the book! Yes, in a land where warriors are not exactly known for their purple prose, Cian is an exception. Eily, our heroine, is now caught up in Cian's story and tries to get him to write more, but that might not be quite as easy as you'd expect.

Pagluica's energetic and bright artwork is the star of the comic but I like the idea behind the story, as well. The notion of a hardened warrior having a softer side that comes out in his writing is a clever one. I look forward to seeing how the story progresses.

You can read the story yourself at the website for the comic here.
