All this month I'll be reviewing different comic books with LGBT themes (LGBT standing for "Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual and Transgender"), based on submissions from the actual creators of the comic books themselves. Here is an archive of the comics featured so far!

The month continues with the first collected volume of Erica Moen's diary comic, Dar!, the most delightful comic you're ever going to read where explicit sex talk and farting are major components of the comic!

I think the most important thing to take away from Dar! is that Erica Moen is an extremely talented sequential artist with a compelling art style that she uses to tell engaging stories where she effectively bares her soul to the audience.

A hint of that is seen in this nice recap to the situation Moen is in when this comic begins (a collection that reprints Moen's auto-biographical web-comic from 2006 through 2008)...

So that's the most important thing - she's a great artist who clearly knows how to tell a story very well.

With that said, what perhaps jumps out the most out of Dar! is the frank sex talk (this is seen in the fact that pretty much all of her "notable" strips on her website from this period are about sex)...

It is these tales that makes Dar! bizarrely delightful, or disturbingly charming, or precious...to the extreme!!!

These are only the most notable strips, though, of course. Plenty of Dar! is just well-told stories of Moen's everyday life. A notable aspect of Moen's life is her sexuality, which she addresses here, in one of her very most notable strips...

The beauty of Dar! is the way that Moen makes stuff that certainly is not charming come off as, well, very charming. Here's a perfect example...

Do note that the collection is in black and white only. The colored strips are just on her website.

Here is her website. You can read more strips, read about her new web comic with the great Jeff Parker (her Periscope Studio-mate) and see where to buy a copy of this volume.

Dar! is highly recommended.
