Month of Art Stars: Artist’s Choice – Tim Hamilton

by  in Comic News Comment

Every day this month I’m going to feature the work of a great artist, only instead of me picking the artist to feature, they will be picked by their peers, fellow professional comic book artists who are picking out artists (from the past and present) who they think deserve special attention. Do note that most artists I asked about this gave me multiple answers and I picked out one choice out of a number of suggestions, so these are not definitive answers, like “Artist X likes Artist Y and he thinks all other Artists are terrible!” Here is an archive of the artists featured so far!

Today, we have the pick of Matt Haley, the nifty comic book artist who I just featured the other week in a Cool Comic Cover Gallery bit! You can check out Matt’s website here (he’s working as a director nowadays).

Matt’s pick is Tim Hamilton.

Tim Hamilton’s first major work was most likely drawing The Trouble With Girls with writers Gerard Jones and Will Jacobs for Marvel’s Epic line of comics.

After The Trouble With Girls, Hamilton bounced around, doing fill-in work for DC and Marvel Comics (again working with Gerry Jones)…

Malibu’s Ultraverse…

and a run on Dark Horse Comics’ Catalyst: Agent of Change (part of Dark Horse’s attempt at having their own line of superhero comics).

Since then, Hamilton’s work has tended away from the colorful world of superheroes, and his darker, moody artwork really suits the stories he has been telling for, say, Boom! Studios, where he drew a Cthulhu Tales…

and a mini-series called Dominion…

Hamilton has a particular expertise at doing adaptation work. His adaptation of Treasure Island for Puffin Press was nothing short of brilliant…

And he’s just about to release an adaptation of Fahrenheit 451.

Playboy has the exclusive rights to the preview pages, so I have nothing to show you on that book yet, but I’m fairly certain that it, too, will look cool.

Here‘s Tim’s website.

Thanks to Matt for the pick!
