All this month I’ll be reviewing different comic books by African-American creators, based on submissions from the actual creators of the comic books themselves. A quick note – since this month is so relatively short, I’ll be featuring an extra comic every week, for a total of 32 comics spotlighted! Here is a list of all the comics spotlighted so far!
Today we take a look at Jacques Nyemb’s Not So Super #1, drawn by Joe Hunter. Check out the great Superman: Secret Identity homage cover it has…
The gist of the comic is that we meet a young single man named Dan who is living a normal enough life as an IT professional for a large company…
However, over the course of this first issue, he slowly develops super powers.
As you can see from above, Hunter’s art is charming and expressive and works perfectly for the approach that Nyemb is going for with the story.
Nyemb develops our protagonist very well, giving us an opportunity to fully understand and appreciate the character by the time that he begins to develop super powers.
The issue ends with the reader’s interest suitably piqued – I am very interested in seeing what happens next for our hero.
You can buy the issue here (it is one of those “suggested payment” type of sites).
