This January, the Marvel Universe will be flooded with monsters of all shapes and sizes, and our heroes will have to put aside their differences in order to stop it. "Monsters Unleashed" -- a five-issue miniseries which hits stores next month -- will be a kaiju-filled extravaganza, and a new behind-the-scenes featurette explains what inspired the monstrous event. The featurette also unveils several pieces of new artwork from the miniseries, which boast characters like Star-Lord, Spider-Man, Thor and the Inhumans.

"Hundreds and thousands of monsters have descended on the Marvel Universe to wreak havoc," Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso explains in the video. "This is an all-hands-on-deck situation for all the Marvel heroes. All the Marvel superheroes have to get past whatever differences they have with each other, unify and fight against this for the fate of the planet." As such, it seems sthe Marvel heroes involved will still be a little sore about the outcome of "Civil War II," but the events of "Monsters Unleashed" may very well patch up some of those relationships.
"One of the coolest parts about this epic is the universe-building that we're doing," adds Senior Editor Mark Paniccia. "We're not just adding to the monster mythos; we're adding to the Marvel U across the board."

"We took it upon ourselves to create monsters for the 21st century, to take the monsters that inspired us when we were kids reading these comic books and imagine, 'What would they look like today in the Marvel Universe?'" Alonso shared.
As to where the artists got their inspiration, Christinia Harrington said, "We told them, 'Something out of a nightmare. Something you would want Captain America to punch right in the face.'"
