"Homeland" star Miranda Otto has joined "24: Legacy" as Rebecca Ingram. Deadline describes the character as "the blazing smart former head of CTU... [who], now married to Senator John Donovan, is struggling with second thoughts about having left counterterrorism agency."

The “24” spinoff, “Legacy,” will follow a young, male operative named Eric Carter ("Straight Outta Compton's" Corey Hawkins) and Otto's Ingram. A former Army Ranger, Carter is pulled back into action when is past comes looking for him. He eventually turns to CTU for help in saving his life and stopping a large-scale terrorist attack.

The intent is to launch as a limited-run series, similar to “Live Another Day,” but an earlier report contends there’s a possibility of a longer-term project. While original “24” star Kiefer Sutherland has previously said he will not return to the series, Howard Gordon, Manny Coto and Even Katz will be back to executive produce. Emmy Award winner Stephen Hopkin will direct the greenlit pilot episode.

Fox has so far only ordered a pilot for the project, which is intended to play out over 12 episodes, like 2014’s “24: Live Another Day.”
