The latest Dark Knight epic just got even bigger. DC has announced that the limited series "Dark Knight III: The Master Race" has expanded from eight issues to nine. The series, which features art by Andy Kubert and Klaus Janson, gained an extra chapter at the request of co-writers Frank Miller and Brian Azzarello

“Once you dive into the Dark Knight mythology, it’s hard to pull yourself out," said Miller in IGN's announcement. "Those characters cannot be contained and neither can we." Azzarello added that “this story turned out to be bigger than the both of us."

The third in a series of "Dark Knight" stories from creator Frank Miller, "The Master Race" was originally slated to conclude in March 2017 with "Dark Knight III" #8; the new ninth issue is now scheduled to arrive in Spring 2017.

Miller's tale of a grizzled Batman began in 1986 with the limited series "Batman: The Dark Knight." He followed that up in 2002 with "The Dark Knight Strikes Again." The third installment, "The Master Race," began in late 2015.

The next issue, "Dark Knight III: The Master Race" #6, will arrive in stores on October 19.
