Last June, BOOM! Studios revealed they had partnered with Saban Brands and would begin publishing "Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers" comics. Now, they have announced Kyle Higgins ("Batman Eternal," "Nightwing") as the series writer, with the #0 issue scheduled for a January release (via Entertainment Weekly). A series regular artist will be announced at a later date.

The #0 issue will also include one-page "Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers" story by writer Mairghread Scott and artist Daniel Bayliss, which debuted at this past Comic-Con International in San Diego.

While there have been many iterations of the "Power Rangers" franchise since it's debut in 1993, BOOM! has specified that their series will feature the heroes as depicted in the first season of the popular show.

"We have big, big plans that will build on the core universe of 'Mighty Morphin Power Rangers,'" BOOM! Studios editor-in-chief Matt Gagnon said previously in a statement. "We can't give too much away just yet, but the story we're kicking off with is vast in scope."

BOOM! Studios has not announced any further post-Comic-Con plans for "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers." One of the most popular kids' franchises of its time, the original show ran from 1993 to 1995, spawning a film and numerous sequel series.
