Today brings a couple of important updates on Prometheus, Ridley Scott’s forthcoming science fiction film that was once a prequel to the Alien series. Noomi Rapace has already been tapped for the lead role of Elizabeth Shaw, and now she’s got her first shipmate in the form of Michael Fassbender. Heat Vision reports that the Inglourious Basterds and Jonah Hex actor has signed on to star opposite Rapace, and while his exact role remains unspecified, we can take a fairly reasonable guess. In late 2010, a report surfaced that Fassbender was circling the role of David, an android. Safe bet that that’s still his role.
In other Prometheus news, THR reports that the film has a new release date: June 8, 2012. This was the release date previously occupied by John Carter of Mars, which earlier changed its own release date for the same weekend as Prometheus‘ originally scheduled debut. Now, the two are switched, with Carter occupying the late winter / early spring spot, and Prometheus a full-on summer blockbuster. Bring ’em both on, we say!
