Michael Bay Explains Why Last Knight Is His Final Transformers Film

After five monstrously successful Transformers films, director Michael Bay is ready to walk away from the franchise. In a recent interview, the renowned helmer took some time to explain why he’s stepping away from the Hasbro-based film series, shedding some light on the exhaustion that comes with concocting the spectacle that is a Transformers film.

“These movies that I’ve done, they are massive movies. They take a lot out of you,” Bay said told Fandango. “I’ve done it enough, and I’ve had a great time doing it. I’m going out with a bang on this one, and I feel like you gotta go out while you’re ahead, you know. I think I’ve had a good run, and I’ve got a lot of other movies I want to do.”

The synopsis for Bay’s Transformers: The Last Knight is as follows:

“The Last Knight” shatters the core myths of the Transformers franchise, and redefines what it means to be a hero. Humans and Transformers are at war, Optimus Prime is gone. The key to saving our future lies buried in the secrets of the past, in the hidden history of Transformers on Earth. Saving our world falls upon the shoulders of an unlikely alliance: Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg); Bumblebee; an English Lord (Sir Anthony Hopkins); and an Oxford Professor (Laura Haddock).

There comes a moment in everyone’s life when we are called upon to make a difference. In Transformers: The Last Knight, the hunted will become heroes. Heroes will become villains. Only one world will survive: theirs, or ours.
