All October long I will be exploring the context behind (using reader danjack's term) "meta-messages." A meta-message is where a comic book creator comments on/references the work of another comic book/comic book creator using the characters in their comic. Each time around, I'll give you the context behind one such "meta-message." Here is an archive of the past installments! If you have a suggestion for a future meta-message, e-mail me at bcronin@comicbookresources.com.
A few different folks suggested the opening pages of Young Justice #1, where Peter Davis gives Robin, Superboy and Impulse some...familiar dreams.
In the opening of Young Justice #1, Peter David has his three leads (Robin, Superboy and Impulse) go through some nightmares. Each nightmare is based on something Peter David did to a comic book character whose ongoing adventures he told.
For instance, Aquaman...
Supergirl...
and the Hulk...
After their initial shock...
Robin goes even further with the meta-joke...
It was a clever way to open up a new ongoing series!
