Men in Black’s Barry Sonnenfeld May Be Directing Metal Men Movie

A month after Barry Sonnenfeld teased that he’s been talking to Warner Bros. “about doing a franchise based on a comic that hasn’t been around since the ’60s,” Vulture contends the Men in Black director is attached to an adaptation of DC Comics’ Metal Men.

Of course, the characters have been around, headlining a handful of series and miniseries since their original title ended in 1970, and appearing in books ranging from Infinite Crisis to Wednesday Comics to Justice League: Generation Lost. Created by Robert Kanigher and Ross Andru, the Metal Men were introduced in 1962’s Showcase #37 as the six robotic creations of Dr. Will Magnus whose abilities reflect the attributes of the namesake metals: Gold, Iron, Lead, Mercury, Platinum and Tin.

The Metal Men have appeared in two episodes of the animated Batman: The Brave and the Bold and briefly in Justice League: The New Frontier.
