Rick Remender and John Cassaday's "Uncanny Avengers" #1 led the month of October in single issue sales.

Diamond Comics Distributors has released its initial sales rankings for last month, which show Marvel Comics had an incredibly strong showing in October. The publisher lead the month in both dollar and unit share in no small thanks to the strong performance of Rick Remender and John Cassaday's "Uncanny Avengers" #1, the leading single issue in the top ten. Another major factor in Marvel's strong performance was no doubt the conclusion to its "Avengers Vs. X-Men" mega-event, which paved the way for its Marvel NOW! publishing initiative. "Avengers Vs. X-Men" #12 was second for the month, while "A Plus X" #1, "AVX VS" #6 and "AVX: Consequences" #1 also found their way onto the top ten list.

However, while Marvel may have taken the single issue chart by storm, it was DC Comics that was most prevalent in the graphic novel and trade paperbacks top ten. In addition to four major titles in the top ten single issues, "Superman: Earth One Volume 2" led the top trades, with "Batman: The Dark Knight," "Batman," "Nightwing" and "V For Vendetta" dominating the latter half of the ten bestselling October graphic novels.

Image Comics' "The Walking Dead" continues a very strong performance in the direct market with "The Walking Dead" #103 as the only non-Marvel or DC single issue to make the top ten in October. Image dominated the top five graphic novels and trade paperbacks with "Saga" Volume 1 leading the way at #2, followed closely by "The Walking Dead" Compendium Volume 2 and the first two trade paperbacks of Robert Kirkman's popular undead saga.

Both dollar and unit share were up nearly five percent from September and nearly 17 percent compared to October 2011. Sales both in dollars and units year-to-date compared with 2011 show marked improvement.
