Marvel’s Inhumans Gets ABC Premiere Date

by  in TV News Comment

Earlier this month, Marvel surprised fans with the announcement that the Inhumans were getting their own TV series — one that would debut on IMAX screens across the country. After learning that the first two episodes “The Inhumans” would premiere on IMAX screens over Labor Day weekend 2017, The Hollywood Reporter has new information regarding the series’ network debut on ABC.

After debuting in IMAX theaters on or around September 1 and running for two weeks, “Inhumans” will premiere on ABC on Tuesday, September 26, 2017. “Inhumans” is also expected to air all eight episodes of its first season uninterrupted on the following Tuesdays.

“Hopefully this will spawn more seasons of the show, and opportunistically, we’re looking at other opportunities and programs that we can become part of,” said Greg Foster, CEO of IMAX Entertainment, as quoted by THR. Foster also added that IMAX is looking to get involved with other TV debuts, although they’re waiting to see how “Inhumans” fares before pursuing more deals.

“This is at the high end of the range of what we’ll be doing, but we’re already looking for a second [series],” said Foster. “This is a really exciting opportunity that could blossom into more.”

The first two episodes of “Inhumans” will air as one IMAX presentation, lasting approximately 80 minutes. The first two episodes of “Inhumans,” which will be shot entirely with IMAX cameras, will screen in 1,000 IMAX theaters across 74 countries. Additionally, select sequences from subsequent episodes of “Inhuamns” will also be shot using IMAX cameras.

The series is also not regarded as a spinoff of “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” The ABC series — currently in its fourth season — introduced the concept of the Inhumans to television and includes a number of Inhumans, like Quake, in its cast. It’s noted that this IMAX deal does not replace the feature film that was previously pulled from the schedule.

Created in 1965 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the Inhumans are a race of super-humans with “diverse and singularly unique powers,” as described in the official announcement. The group of heroes have recently seen a higher profile at Marvel on the comics page and on the small screen, as “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” has introduced the concept and included many new Inhumans in its cast. Just today, Marvel announced a new space-faring “Inhumans” ongoing series from writer Al Ewing and artist Jonboy Meyers set to debut in 2017.
