Marvel’s Elders Rumored for Guardians Vol. 2 and Thor: Ragnarok

Although the last few entries have been relatively Earth-bound, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has hinted at the existence of some pretty powerful cosmic beings for a little while now, teasing that others would soon show up to join the likes of The Collector, played by Benicio del Toro. Little else was known about who or when the other Elders would finally debut, but according to recent rumors, the waiting appears to almost be over.

Schmoes Know reported that there’s a strong possibility the remaining Elders will show up in the upcoming “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” and “Thor: Ragnarok” movies, citing the recent casting of Jeff Goldblum as The Grandmaster and Elizabeth Debicki as Ayesha, along with Sharon Stone and Sylvester Stallone in unspecified roles. The Grandmaster will play a pivotal role in the new Thor outing as “the Overseer of the Gladiatorial Games on the planet Ragnarok,” while the other three along with The Collector will lend their expertise in “Vol. 2” as the Guardians search for Star-Lord’s father, who turns out to be Ego, the Living Planet — played by Kurt Russell, no less. The report also notes that Ayesha in the comics is not actually an Elder, but apparently her story will be tweaked a bit to fit into her new MCU role. Likewise, the site mentions that the same is possible for Stone and Stallone’s roles, whatever those may end up being.

For those not quite as well-versed in Marvel lore, the Elders are ancient, powerful beings who are the last survivors of his or her alien race, and often are responsible for interjecting themselves into some of the larger cosmic events in the comics. As the Avengers are heading towards a showdown in “Infinity War” with the big purple man himself, Thanos, it makes sense to bring in some other pretty substantial interstellar characters into the mix.

Audiences will get to find out just how powerful the Elders are when they show up in “Vol. 2″ on May 17, 2017, as well as”Ragnarok” on November 3, 2017.
