"Disney Infinity" is made for the toy collector. A video game franchise in the same vein as Activision's "Skylanders" series, "Disney Infinity" uses a special accessory to bring specific toys from the real world into the game. So far, Disney has brought in characters from "Pirates of the Caribbean," "Wreck-It Ralph," "Monsters, Inc," "Toy Story," "Frozen," "The Incredibles," "The Nightmare Before Christmas" and more. However, the newest trailer for the game indicates that Disney is beginning to expand the video game/toy franchise into another major property: Marvel.

The trailer features Captain America's shield whizzing by some of the "Disney Infinity" characters until it knocks out a robot, and also teases a "2.0" version of the game, which could mean anything from an expansion to a name for a new wave of figures. While the clip doesn't show any of the designs for the "Disney Infinity" versions of the characters, it's a decent bet that Earth's Mightiest Heroes will be adapted into the game's house style.

While the game isn't the first time Marvel's characters have crossed over with Disney -- The Avengers guest-starred on Disney Channel's "Phineas and Ferb: Mission Marvel" last year -- it does mark the debut of Marvel and Disney characters side-by-side in a video game, which has the potential to pave the way for Marvel character appearances in other games. (I'm looking at you, "Kingdom Hearts 3.")

"Disney Infinity" is available now for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.
