Marvel has released an ominous teaser image indicating the return of Marvel Zombies this fall.

The image, illustrated by Inhyuk Lee, features undead versions of Captain America, Deadpool and Wolverine. Then, in the bottom-left corner lies the foreboding promise that "The dead will walk again," followed by an October 2019 release window.

The original Marvel Zombies was a five-issue limited series by Robert Kirkman and Sean Phillips that ran from December 2005 through April 2006. Spinning out of Ultimate Fantastic Four and set in an alternate universe (Earth-2149), the series saw the various heroes and villains of Marvel transformed into flesh-eating zombies thanks to a virus from another dimension. It went on to spawn several sequels (including a crossover with Dynamite Entertainment's Army of Darkness) and tie-ins, as well, and it was most recently revived briefly in 2018 by W. Maxwell Prince and Stefano Raffaele.

As for this new incarnation of Marvel Zombies, details remain scarce. However, with Comic-Con International in San Diego just around the corner, we shouldn't have to wait long to find out what exactly will cause the dead to walk again this time.
