Throughout the years, “Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes” has earned a great deal of respect in the fighting community. Upon its release over ten years ago, the game became a huge hit in arcades, followed by an arcade-perfect port on the Sega Dreamcast just under a year later. Today, it still remains just as popular, thanks to a digital release on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, complete with online play.
Late last week, Capcom announced that is is set tobring the classic fighting hit to a whole new market — the mobile front. “Marvel vs. Capcom 2” is slated to arrive in Apple’s App Store on April 25, next week, allowing users to play with their favorite fighters on the go through their iPad and iPhone devices.
All 56 characters from the original game will be available in the game and unlocked for play, including classic favorites like Street Fighter’s Ryu, Wolverine, Mega Man and Iron Man and Captain America of “Avengers” fame.
Additionally, Capcom has stated that this port of the game will include the “Variable System,” in which you can tag players out on a three-man team at any time, should someone be running low on energy or need an assist in the heat of battle. You’ll also be able to execute a “Team Hyper Combo,” calling on friends to jump in and finish off opponents with a devastating attack.
The only question that remains is how “Marvel vs. Capcom 2” will play on the devices. Folks usually turn to traditional fighting methods, like an arcade stick or FightPad, to control their character, but with the iPad and iPhone touch screens, you’ll need to utilize an on-screen controller and button scheme. Capcom has made this work before with an exceptional mobile port of “Street Fighter IV,” released a couple of years ago. We’ll see how it fares with this release.
Though a price point hasn’t been announced yet, the game is expected to sell for $9.99.
“Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes” is available Wednesday, April 25.
