Following Marvel's recent trend towards musically-themed alternative covers with its hip-hop variants, the House of Ideas appears to be ready to take on another popular genre of album covers with a new selection of rock-themed variants lined up for the fall.

The initial group of five rock variants will include Mike Hawthorne and Nathan Fairbairn's take on the iconic cover to Nirvana's Nevermind for Guardians of the Galaxy #9, Damion Scott's version of the Guns N' Roses Appetite for Destruction cover for Inhumans: Once and Future Kings #2, Marco Rudy's remix of the The Clash's classic London Calling cover for Mighty Thor #23 and Daniel Acuna's vision of Blondie's Parallel Lines for X-Men Blue #11. They will be joined by Mike Del Mundo's cover for X-Men Gold #11, which has not yet been revealed.

It remains to be seen whether sales for these new variant covers will rock as hard as their hip-hop predecessors, but should they prove successful there will surely be not just more rock variants in the future, but a whole host of other music-themed cover tributes to come. Is it too early to hope we will see a variant inspired by The Beatles' Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band featuring a panoply of Marvel's greatest heroes?

Marvel's rock variants are due to hit comic shops in September.
