Marvel Comics' upcoming weekly Avengers: No Surrender storyline will combine the rosters of Avengers, U.S.Avengers and Uncanny Avengers to tell one massive story. Another long-forgotten team will also be featured, as artwork reveals a new incarnation of the Lethal Legion.

The two-page spread from artists Pepe Larraz and David Curiel depicts the Lethal Legion facing off against Thanos' Black Order. Larraz created the designs for this incarnationof the Lethal Legion, which looks to include new characters. If we go back through the team's long history, however, it's possible to see similarities between previous members and the ones displayed here. For example, the character dressed in gold could be the inventor named the Living Laser, and the woman to the far left may be the sorceress Nekra.

There have been multiple versions of the Lethal Legion, with the first introduced in 1970 in Avengers #78. That lineup was formed by Grimm Reaper -- the brother of the Avenger Wonder Man -- and consisted of the Living Laser, Man-Ape, Power Man and Swordsman. The team has been a thorn in the side of the Avengers on numerous occasions.

With the time-travel nature of "No Surrender," it raises the question of whether this scene takes place in the present or in the past. One clue that it could be the past is all five members of the Black Order (and Black Swan) are alive and accounted for; each villain has died in various storylines over the past few years. We also know the mysterious new hero Voyager has been retconned into Avengers history, so all bets are off regarding who is alive and who isn't heading into the weekly series.

Launching in January with Avengers #675, Avengers: No Surrender is written by Mark Waid, Al Ewing and Jim Zub, and illustrated by Pepe Larraz, Kim Jacinto and Paco Medina.
