Marvel isn't being shy when it comes to promoting its upcoming Marvel Legacy publishing initiative -- in a new release sent to press midday Thursday, the company has promised an announcement on Friday, June 23 with this rather bold headline: "Every Hero! Every Title! Every Story! Tomorrow, MARVEL LEGACY Changes the Comic Book Industry!"

Of course, it's not yet known exactly what's being announced on Friday -- one could guess solid details on post-Secret Empire series and creative teams -- and the wide-reaching phrase "changes the comic book industry" lends to speculation that this could potentially involve experimentation with publishing or distribution models, rather than just characters and plotlines. Either way, it looks like it's only 24 hours or so before all -- or, more likely, some -- will be revealed.

Marvel Legacy #1 to Introduce Avengers From 1,000,000 BC

The press release came accompanied with a new variant cover by Mark Brooks for September's Marvel Legacy #1, the oversized one-shot by Jason Aaron and Esad Ribic that will set the stage for the publisher's new status quo. Notably for those who have perceived Marvel as downplaying the X-Men in its promotional material in recent years, this image includes multiple X-Men characters -- including Cyclops, Jean Grey, Kitty Pryde and Wolverine (Laura Kinney) -- as well as Fantastic Four member The Thing, who was the star of a teaser image tweeted by Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso on Wednesday.

Additionally, while the classic versions of Captain America, Thor and Iron Man appear on Brooks' cover, so do Sam Wilson's Captain America, Jane Foster's Thor and Riri Williams' Ironheart.

"A new initiative that will take things back to our iconic history, with a firm eye on the future, Marvel Legacy will present stories that remind everyone -- newcomers and longtime fans alike -- why Marvel stands as the premier name in fiction," Alonso is quoted in Marvel's press release. "Our titles will unearth gems from Marvel’s rich history, remind readers of connections between characters, and usher in the return of some major characters who’ve been missed. Above all else, we want to inject our comics with a massive dose of fun!"
