The New York Times reported this morning news that Marvel Comics will produce two new weekly titles to be available exclusively as part of the publisher’s Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited subscription initiative. The titles – “Iron Man: Fast Friends” and “The Incredible Hulk: The Fury Files” – take place in the recently established Marvel Movie Universe, as depicted in this year’s “Iron Man” and “Incredible Hulk” feature films.
Launching this Wednesday, “Iron Man: Fast Friends” takes place after the events of the Iron Man movie and focuses on the relationship between Tony Stark and Jim “Rhodey” Rhodes. Featuring stories by Paul Tobin with art by Ronan Cliquet and Dave Bullock covers, “Fast Friends” debuts just ahead of the September 30 DVD release of director Jon Favreau and actor Robert Downey, Jr.’s “Iron Man” film.
In a release, Marvel said “The Incredible Hulk: The Fury Files” follows S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury – modeled after actor Samuel L. Jackson, naturally – as he “finds out why it’s a bad idea to make Bruce Banner angry.” With covers by Steve Lieber, the series is written by Frank Tieri and illustrated by Salva Espin. “The Fury Files” launches October 8 and is followed on October 21 by the release of “The Incredible Hulk” on DVD.
