Marvel has released a new trailer for an unknown game or feature entitled "Marvel XP Briefing #1," featuring a voiceover briefing by Nick Fury detailing a mysterious pulse with dossiers for core Avengers Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, Thor, Hawkeye and Black Widow on the left.

"This pulse from space has shut down power grids and communication networks around the world," Fury says in the trailer. "The security of The Vault, S.H.I.E.L.D.'s top secret containment facility has been compromised. Someone, somehow, has thrown open the cells and unleaded every super powered criminal, alien and monster you've captured on the countryside. To contain a crisis this big, we need to split you up on individual missions. As of this moment, S.H.I.E.L.D. is enacting the Avengers Initiative."

Adversaries escaped from The Vault include Humanoid, Wendigo, Zzzax, Skrulls, Kronan and many more. It's worth noting that the backdrop of the trailer is the same as the Marvel XP feature for the publisher's "Avengers Alliance" Facebook social game. Further exploration into the Marvel XP feature reveals the pulse Fury refers to in his briefing has been detailed in the Marvel XP news feed since January, with regular updates through February. After months of no new updates, this trailer surfaced on August 10.

Perhaps it's no coincidence, then, that the publisher released a teaser image yesterday featuring the Hulk, Thor, Captain America and Iron Man with the caption, "Something Massive Is Smashing Onto Mobile From Marvel." It's possible the publisher is teasing a mobile spinoff of "Avengers Alliance" with benefits tied in to the core Facebook game for those who choose to take part in the mobile option. The art style of the teaser and Marvel XP trailer are consistent with that of "Avengers Alliance" and expanding the game into the world of mobile gaming would certainly be an interesting direction for Marvel to take as it continues to expand its influence in the social gaming realm.
