We've known for a while now that, with most of its major characters already in play (Iron Man, Captain America, Thor) or in the hands of other studios (Spider-Man, X-Men, Fantastic Four), Marvel is searching its catalog for lesser-known properties that could find new line on film or television: Black Panther, Cloak & Dagger, Jessica Jones/Alias, Runaways and Iron Fist.

Now add to that list the Inhumans, the race of superhumans created in 1965 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.

Badass Digest reports the studio is developing a movie that, according to an It's On the Grid entry, would reimagine the Inhumans as "aliens who were put on Earth as sleeper cell aliens to eventually call back their race to take over the planet." However, "ultimately, the group of aliens fully assimilates and don’t want to cause war."

The project is apparently out to writers, and no further information is available.

We probably shouldn't read too much into that description, as much could change between now and the time a script is handed in -- if the movie even makes it that far. However, it seems like a solid concept for an update, part socio-political commentary, part young-adult sci-fi novel (a la, say, I Am Number Four). But maybe that is reading too much into it ...
