We love superheroes. They're the individuals who perform amazing feats to save countless individuals. They do this through their impeccable skill sets or powers that are beyond those of mortal individuals.

Nevertheless, sometimes these individuals have heightened abilities to create and save lives that neither Superman or Captain America do. In this case, we're talking about the superhero doctors of the comic book universes. Not only do they have metahuman abilities, but they also perform their duties in hospitals and labs donned in white coats. .

10 Cecilia Reyes

Cecilia Reyes

Dr. Reyes is a reluctant superhero. When asked to join the X-Men at the same time as characters like Marrow and Maggot, she declined. Dr. Reyes was more comfortable as a trauma surgeon than as someone who battled superpowered villains. Yet, thanks to her mutant ability to generate a defensive force shield around her, she was eventually encouraged to be part of the team.

Yet, she still didn't embrace the role 100 percent. Instead of a flashy and unique costume, Dr. Reyes wore the standard blue and yellow training outfit. In addition, after only a few adventures, she decided to give up her role as an X-Man and return to her original position of saving lives through surgery.

9 Charles McNider (Dr. Mid-Nite)

Charles is one of three medical doctors to take on the role of Dr. Mid-Nite in the DC Comics universe. The others, Dr. Beth Chapel and Dr. Pieter Cross, took on the role in later years, with Cross joining the 21st-century incarnation of the Justice Society. In all three instances, the people behind the mask dedicated their lives to helping metahumans and normal people alike.

The good news is their loss of sight didn't harm their medical skills. In fact, Charles was able to see in the daytime thanks to glasses with infrared lenses. Basically, he was one of the first superheroes with a disability who was still able to perform his duties. A trait that future heroes like Matt Murdock's Daredevil would incorporate into their lives.

8 Leonard Skivorski (Doc Samson)

Immortal Hulk Doc Samson feature

Before his transformation, Leonard used his psychiatric skills to cure Bruce Banner/Hulk of his anger issues. It took siphoning some of his gamma radiation to do so. Of course, being Marvel's exposure of choice in the 1960s and 70s, Leonard decided to dose himself with some of this radiation, thus giving him super strength and green hair.

Even though he could now fight together with Green Hulk, Grey Hulk, Red Hulk, and the other Rainbow Hulks as Doc Samson, Leonard still retained his psychiatric skills. In addition, he continued to help Bruce determine the root cause of his transformations. During the Peter David era of the comic, Samson helped the consciences of the Green and Grey Hulks to merge with Banner to work as one cohesive unit. Leonard remains part of the Immortal Hulk's family.

7 Thomas Wayne

In the Flashpoint universe, Dr. Thomas Wayne was once a gifted surgeon. after his son Bruce was killed by a gunman, he becomes a costumed vigilante. However, where his son on Prime Earth defeated criminals through skill and detective work, Thomas Wayne decided to do it through harsh violence and guns.

Eventually, Thomas gave up being a physician altogether and devoted his time to drinking and owning casinos. Through various twists in the Multiverse, Thomas' version of Batman made its way to the Rebirth universe. Here, he tried to gain his son's love by, well, pretty much destroying him. Needless to say, the reunion wasn't filled with hugs.

6 Hank Pym (Ant-Man)

We feel the Marvel Comics universe would be much different if Dr. Henry "Hank" Pym wasn't part of it. The original Avengers wouldn't have been so diverse without his powers and scientific abilities. Wasp would have been without a partner. Of course, Ultron wouldn't have been created.

Okay, that last item we could live without. Still, Dr. Pym has contributed a great deal to Earth-616. Not only in his role as Ant-Man/Giant-Man/Goliath/Yellowjacket but also has a gifted scientist.

5 Michael Holt (Mr. Terrific)

Michael Holt has several degrees. Actually, 14 of them. A few of those are doctorates and medical certificates. Even though he doesn't use his medical skills as much, it's the reason he's still on this list.

Frankly, he would have been here for his other doctorates. Michael is so dang smart that he can do almost everything. Not many people can hide from technology, nor create nearly autonomous T-Spheres to help him see everything. In the end, Dr. Holt is one of the smartest individuals in the DC Comics universe.

4 Otto Octavious (Superior Spider-Man)

Superior Spider-Man feature

If we were writing this back in 201o, Dr. Otto Octavious wouldn't have been on this list. That's because the atomic physicist was still in the guise of Doctor Octopus during that time. However, since his body swap and transformation into the Superior Spider-Man, Otto has leaned to the side of good.

There's no argument Octavious is one of the top scientists in the Marvel universe. Even when he was a criminal, Otto was not only brilliant but a leader. The Sinister Six wouldn't have gone toe-to-toe with the Amazing Spider-Man if he didn't. Luckily, he uses his abilities to help people these days instead of stealing from them.

3 Donald Blake (Thor)

Once upon a time, Thor was actually an osteopathic surgeon. No, we aren't kidding. When the character was introduced, he had been a physician for years under the guise of Don Blake. A dedicated surgeon who walked with a wooden cane due to a leg injury. Turns out, the cane was actually Thor's cherished hammer.

Blame the deception on Odin. Tired of the way Thor acted, he transformed him into Blake in order to gain an understanding of humility. Once Thor's father was satisfied with the change, he gave Blake a chance to transform back into the God of Thunder. Eventually, Dr. Don Blake was separated from Thor and given a new life.

2 Stephen Strange (Doctor Strange)

The tale of Stephen Strange's transformation to Doctor Strange is another story of humility. A gifted surgeon with a bit of an attitude, he lost it all after a serious car accident. Desperate to regain that part of his life, Stephen took to the mystic arts.

Instead of getting that skill set back, Dr. Strange gained much more. In addition, instead of individuals, he was tasked to protect the entire universe. Definitely a situation where a good deal of power, and humility, are required.

1 Hank McCoy (Beast)

Why is Hank McCoy at the top of the list? Because, well, he's the Beast. Out of all the doctors on the list, Hank is the one we would want to speak with when it came to genetics. He's certainly an expert when it comes to the DNA structure of mutants.

Sure, he's made some mistakes over time, but what scientist doesn't have his moments? Granted, bringing the original X-Men to the 21st century wasn't the greatest idea he had, but it seems all is forgotten in the Jonathan Hickman era of X-Men. Today, he proudly serves as one of the top specialists on Krakoa.
