Marvel Congratulates their 2005 Eisner Award Winners

Official Press Release

The 17th Annual Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards were awarded on Friday, July 15th and Marvel congratulates all of the well-deserving winners of the event. Some of Marvel’s greatest creators were recognized at the award ceremony including Brian K. Vaughan, Sean McKeever, John Cassaday, Dave Stewart, Eric Powell, and James Jean.

Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada says, “From all of us here at Marvel, I want to extend congratulations to all of the Eisner Award winners, in particular to hometown boys John Cassaday, James Jean, Eric Powell, Dave Stewart, Sean McKeever and Brian K. Vaughan. All incredibly talented and well deserving creators.”

The award for best writer was given to Brian K. Vaughan, who is known by Marvel fans for his work on the smash-hit Runaways and the ever-popular Ultimate X-Men. Vaughan begins a new story arc in Runaways #7, which finds the team once again meeting up with Cloak and Dagger; while in Ultimate X-Men #62, he orchestrates the return of the X-Men’s greatest nemesis, Magneto!

Sean McKeever was awarded the Talent Deserving of Wider Recognition Award for his work on Mary Jane: Homecoming, Inhumans, and Sentinel. McKeever’s newest work is Gravity, where a small-town super-hero tries to make it in college and in the big city. Gravity #3 finds New York’s newest super-hero taking on a super-villain he once accidentally helped escape. But will Gravity rectify his mistake or will he find himself in even bigger trouble?

In August, McKeever will also launch a new mini-series called Mega Morphs. The new title follows some of Marvel’s greatest heroes as they try out Tony Stark’s newest invention…super-powerful transforming robots! Based on a new line of toys from Toy Biz, McKeever will knock readers out with giant robot action, featuring Spider-Man, Wolverine, and others.

John Cassaday was part of a tie for the Best Penciler/Inker Award for his stunning work on the critically acclaimed Astonishing X-Men. Cassaday is finishing up his first run on the book with writer Joss Whedon and both plan to return to the title within the next year. Astonishing X-Men #12 is the final chapter of the Dangerous story arc brought to you with John Cassaday’s high octane visuals!

The award of Best Coloring was awarded to Dave Stewart for his incredible work on such titles as Daredevil, Ultimate X-Men, Ultimate Six, and Captain America. James Jean won the award for Best Cover Artist and is currently providing covers for Amazing Fantasy. Eric Powell won for Best Humor Publication and he will be providing covers to the Marvel Monsters Specials in October as well as co-writing and co-penciling the Marvel Monsters: Devil Dinosaur one-shot.
