Monsters have been a significant part of comics since the Golden Age, and Marvel is looking to remind us all of that fact in a big way. We've known for a while that the new "Monsters Unleashed" event series will be led by writer Cullen Bunn and artist Steve McNiven, but up until this point, Marvel's larger plans for the creatures have been scarce. We knew there would be monsters, we knew some of them would be gigantic (and that one of them would be Giganto), but Marvel has just announced that the series will not be just an event -- after the central "Monsters Unleashed" miniseries concludes, the monsters will continue to plague the Marvel Universe in their own ongoing series.

“The focus is monsters and action and fun, but the book is important to the landscape of the Marvel Universe going forward,” said Bunn. “We’re introducing—and reintroducing—giant monsters to the world in a big way. And they’ll be a part of the world from this point forward.”

This new ongoing will also be written by Bunn, who is being joined by artist David Baldeon. It will continue the adventures of Kei Kawade a.k.a. Kid Kaiju, the central figure of the event. Kei has control over the some of the monsters, and the ongoing will see him teaming up with fan-favorite demon hunter Elsa Bloodstone. Bunn looks forward to exploring Kid Kaiju's potential, saying, "His powers are unlike anyone else’s. If you really think about it, he’s insanely powerful, with the potential to be a world-changer, but he’s just a kid. It’s going to be a lot of fun to see where his powers take him and how they grow over time."
