Following months of speculation, and even some hints from the actor himself, we at last know what character Martin Freeman plays in Marvel's "Captain America: Civil War."

Debuting an image from the sequel of Freeman alongside Emily VanCamp's Sharon Carter, Empire confirms the "Sherlock" actor portrays Everett Ross, who in Marvel comics is typically depicted as a U.S. government expert on -- and liaison to -- Wakanda.

Many fans began theorizing that Freeman would play Ross, virtually from the moment the actor's casting in "Civil War" was announced in May.

Empire reports that in "Civil War," Ross will be part of the Joint Counter Terrorist Center. And, considering his ties to Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), it seems likely he'll play a role in the hero's solo film.

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, "Captain America: Civil War" also stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Don Cheadle, Jeremy Renner, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, Frank Grillo, Tom Holland, William Hurt and Daniel Brühl. The film opens May 6.
