When Avengers: Age of Ultron star Mark Ruffalo stopped by The Daily Show Thursday night to promote his new film Infinity Polar Bear, an argument unexpectedly broke out ... over who would win in a matchup between Superman and the Incredible Hulk.

For host Jon Stewart, there's no contest: The Man of Steel would clearly triumph, at least if we're talking about a standing high jump (which probably isn't what most fans think of when they hear "Superman vs. Hulk").

"My take on it is, Superman can fly," Stewart explained. "My point to them [the audience] was, if they both stood like this and both jumped, who's coming down first?"

Unconvinced, and perhaps a bit perplexed, Ruffalo replied, "If the high jump was the determining factor of who would win in, you know -- I'm going to miss you."

Undeterred, Stewart charged on. "My point is, we all know what happens when Hulk gets mad, they say, 'You wouldn't like me when I'm mad,'" he said. "Don't you think that would make him so fucking mad?"

Unfortunately, the topic quickly (if not exactly smoothly) pivoted to Ruffalo's activism, leaving the decades-long debated to be settled on another night.
