Mark Hamill surprised some unsuspecting “Star Wars” super fans in a promotional video for charity organization Omaze. Disney, Hamill and Omaze have partnered to send one lucky donor on a once-in-a-lifetime “Star Wars” journey that will culminate in a guest appearance in the upcoming “Han Solo” prequel film. To celebrate the campaign, Hamill — who played Luke Skywalker in the original “Star Wars” trilogy — invited fans of the series to read a few iconic lines before popping in for a surprise cameo. The fans were taken aback, to say the least.
The pranks came about as part of the Force for Change campaign, a “Star Wars”-themed initiative to help children in need. Omaze and Force for Change will raise money for the Starlight Children’s Foundation and UNICEF. By donating money to Omaze, contributors are entered to win a few grand prizes: a night at Skywalker Ranch, a set visit to the upcoming “Han Solo” prequel film, a chance to appear in the movie and a trip to the “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” premiere. On top of all of those once-in-a-lifetime opporunities, an extra prize has been added: a chance to have lunch with Hamill in Los Angeles.
Hamill’s pranking skills were put to good use in the video, which not only raised awareness about the Omaze raffle, but had the added effect of making several fans’ wildest dreams come true. Force for Change donations can be made at Omaze’s official website, where details about entry rules and tiered donation prizes can be found.
Debuting in theaters on December 15, “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” is a production of Lucasfilm Ltd. directed by Rian Johnson and starring Mark Hamill, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Gwendoline Christie, Laura Dern, Domhnall Gleeson, Andy Serkis, Lupita Nyong’o, Kelly Marie Tran and Carrie Fisher.
