Margot Robbie has signed on to star in the Sony drama "Marian," which will follow the titular character's adventures after the death of Robin Hood. The film will be produced by Donald De Line and Amy Pascal with a script by Pete Barry.

The description, from The Hollywood Reporter, reads: "'Marian' unfolds after the death of Robin Hood, the love of her life. The titular maiden then picks up his cause to lead her people into a pivotal war that will not only decide the fate of the kingdom, but also see her don the mantle of the man she loved. In the process, she rises as a legend herself."

Robbie and Rock Shank are also listed as potential producers; Robbie through her LuckyChap Entertainment group and Rock Shank with Romark Films.

"Marian" will join a slew of "Robin Hood"-inspired films to make their way to theaters in the near future. Lionsgate is working on a "Robin Hood" origin story for relase on March 2018, visual effects supervisor Hasraf ‘HaZ’ Dulull will begin shooting a futuristic take later this year, and a modern-day take from Alex Kurtzman and Justin Lin titled "A Burglar's Guide to the City" is currently in development from CBS.

Margot Robbie is set to reprise her “Suicide Squad” role as Harley Quinn in "Gotham City Sirens," and will also executive produce the film through her first-look deal with Warner Bros. She reportedly pitched the idea for the film to the studio. Geneva Robertson-Dworet, who is working on scripts for the “Tomb Raider” remake as well as “Sherlock Holmes 3,” has been tapped to write the script. “Gotham City Sirens” does not yet have a release date, but it has reportedly been fast-tracked.
