Official details remain scarce about the upcoming solo Batman film starring Ben Affleck and set in DC’s rapidly expanding cinematic universe. So far the only things we really know about the movie have come from actor Joe Manganiello, who has been cast as Deathstroke in the film. During an appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show,” Manganiello continued his tradition of dishing out details — although this new bit of info is a little suspect.
While talking about the upcoming Batman film, Manganiello said: “I play the world’s deadliest assassin, who also has one eye. We will start at some point this year, it looks like.”
Since it’s now December and this year — 2016 — is almost over, it seems like a bit of stretch for “Batman” to start filming in the next few weeks. Previously, the actor revealed that the film is scheduled to start filming in spring 2017. It’s possible that Manganiello means some preliminary production work, like meetings or fittings, will start this year — or perhaps he just misspoke and means 2017.
You can watch the video and judge for yourself. Manganiello starts talking “Batman” in the video below around the 9:40.
Reportedly directed by Ben Affleck, written by Geoff Johns, and starring Affleck, Jeremy Irons (Alfred), J.K. Simmons (Commissioner Gordon) and Joe Manganiello (Deathstroke), the solo “Batman” film hasn’t been given a release date. He also endorsed Anna Kendrick to play Robin, after the actress started a fun campaign to play the character.
