Man of Steel Takes Flight With New Images, Details

Up until now, everyone involved with Man of Steel — from director Zack Snyder to the stars to the Warner Bros. marketing machine — has kept a pretty tight lid on the details of the franchise reboot. Questions about plot and tone are met with vague responses, the few movie stills haven’t been particularly illuminating, and the first television spot included a whole second of new footage.

That lid begins to loosen, however, with the new issue of Entertainment Weekly, which features Superman himself Henry Cavill on the cover. A preview of the article reveals some intriguing details, most notably that a mainstay of DC Comics mythology doesn’t make an appearance. “I’ll be honest with you,” Snyder says, “there’s no Kryptonite in the movie.”

Also: Kal-El’s “specialness” apparently isn’t limited to Earth and the effects of its yellow sun. EW reports, “This film reveals that even on Krypton, young Kal-El was a special child, whose birth was cause for alarm on his home planet.”

Luckily, /Film also snagged seven photos from the magazine’s iPad edition, providing us with an advance look at new images of Cavill as Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Russell Crow as Jor-El, Kevin Costner and Diane Lane as Jonathan and Martha Kent, Antje Traue as Faora, and Laurence Fishburne as Perry White.

Man of Steel opens June 14.
