It’s worth pointing out that, along with the first look at Henry Cavill as Superman, comes confirmation of the central cast of director Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel.
Before this morning, Warner Bros. had only officially announced Cavill, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, and Laurence Fishburne as Perry White (the latter broke Wednesday through corporate sibling Entertainment Weekly, so it was fairly official). But now we finally have a statement confirming Russell Crowe as Superman’s Kryptonian father Jor-El, Julia Ormond as his Kryptonian mother Lara Lor-Van, Antje Traue as “Zod’s evil partner” Faora, Harry Lennix as General Swanwick and Christopher Meloni as Colonel Hardy.
Still no word on Jimmy Olsen, though — or whether Superman’s traditional red trunks are gone, or merely hidden by shadows.
Man of Steel, which opens June 14, 2013, is written by David S. Goyer from a story by Goyer and Christopher Nolan.
