SUPERMAN: THE MAN OF STEEL
Spinoff Online reports that actor Laurence Fishburne has been cast as Perry White in the film. I imagine he’ll play a warmer version of the character … well, when he’s not chewing out his staff. Meanwhile, star Henry Cavill tells Total Film what it feel like to wear the tights. “I turned around and look in the mirror and you can’t really play it cool – you sort of guffaw and laugh,” he says. “I thought ‘OK, holy hell, this is real, it’s not a joke anymore. This is it…you’re doing it, you’re right in the middle of it.'”

EMILY THE STRANGE
Heat Vision reports that “Snow White and the Huntsman” screenwriter Melisa Wallack has been tapped to adapt the Dark Horse property. “The story line is being kept under wraps, although the aim is to tell the origin of the punk and gothic figure and how she comes to gain her abilities that fuse technology and imagination,” they write. “The story will also focus on her relationship with four cats: troublemaker Sabbath, schemer Nee-Chee, imaginative Miles and leader Mystery.” I know I’ve always been curious about the character’s origins … maybe I’m suffering from origin fatigue.

GREEN LANTERN 2
Warner Bros film group president Jeff Robinov tells The Los Angeles Times Hero Complex that they are still moving forward on a “Green Lantern” sequel. “To go forward we need to make it a little edgier and darker with more emphasis on action,” says Robinov. “And we have to find a way to balance the time the movie spends in space versus on Earth.” If I can do a little armchair executive-producing, the first film’s biggest problem was a lack of confidence in its ideas. Consider that in every other presentation of the story, Hal immediately learns to fly upon receiving the ring. In the feature, he runs away and bitches to the his buddy about the alien. He never really enjoys having the powers. In fact, he runs from them at every opportunity. I don’t know if “edgier and darker” is necessarily the right tone to take, but having confidence in the chosen tone would be a start.

Marvel released a clip from the forthcoming short featuring Clark Gregg as everyone’s favorite S.H.I.E.L.D. agent:
The short will be released on the “Thor” DVD/Blu-ray and is the first of several short films with Agent Coulson that will serve as connecting tissue between the features and reveal the agent’s day to day life in the organization. “I think every day he’s somewhere doing something for S.H.I.E.L.D.,” says Gregg. “And yet I don’t always know what that is.”

THE CROW (BEGINS)
Actor Bradley Cooper tells Den of Geek that his ties to the project may not be as solid as previously reported. “It was never like that. It was something that got a lot of traction on the Internet, but I’m not sure where that is,” says the actor. It’s always possible that his interest in the project waned as development and legal action stalled its momentum. Such is life in Hollywood.

As the Con-Crud finally leaves my system, word comes that several reels of an earlier Alfred Hitchcock project have been recovered in New Zealand. According to The Hollywood Reporter, “For ‘The White Shadow,’ an atmospheric British melodrama picked up for international distribution by Hollywood’s Lewis J. Selznick Enterprises, Hitchcock is credited as assistant director, art director, editor and writer. He was 24 when he worked on the film.” The three reels discovered represents more than half the film. For a movie fan like myself, that’s pretty cool news. Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, or just plain weird, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya, bracing for the future threat of other unlikely discoveries.
