Faster than a speeding bullet, indeed.

Man of Steel debuted in theaters this weekend with a box-office take of approximately $125.1 million. Given the success, it's no wonder Warner Bros. is fast-tracking a sequel — one that could land as early as 2014, if one report is to be believed.

The Wall Street Journal states that a Man of Steel sequel could hit theaters "as soon as 2014," according to "knowledgeable people close to the studio." Furthermore, the newspaper contends the long-developing Justice League movie could assemble "as soon as 2015," as has been previously rumored.

Getting Henry Cavill back in the air as Superman in time for a 2014 release feels … well, "rushed" would be one way of putting it. But considering that Warner Bros. already has Cavill locked for The Man From U.N.C.L.E., how tough would it be to shift him away from that franchise and lock him back in for another turn as the Last Son of Krypton? Further, Zack Snyder and David Goyer have both openly admitted they discussed sequel possibilities while shooting the first Man of Steel. Perhaps a second flight with Cavill's Superman is a bit further along than we realize.

All that said, 2014 feels very soon for another Man of Steel. 2015, on the other hand? That could work.
