San Francisco is Gotham City for a day, with the Make-A-Wish Greater Bay Area on Friday granting the wish of five-year-old Miles, now better known as "Batkid."

The Make-A-Wish Foundation has seen its plans for a day of costumed adventures for Miles come to fruition, teaming-up with DC Comics icon Batman to take on The Penguin, The Riddler and even riding around town in his own Batmobile. The day is scheduled to culminate with Batkid receiving the key to the city from San Francisco mayor Ed Lee.

Miles is from Tulelake in Siskiyou County, north of San Francisco, and is described by Make-A-Wish as a superhero lover "rarely seen not wearing a costume of one of his idols." The organization states he's been fighting leukemia since he was a year old. It's now in remission, with treatment ending last month.

"This wish has meant closure for our family and an end to over three years of putting toxic drugs in our son's body," Miles' mother, Natalie, is quoted in a statement. "This wish has become kind of a family reunion and is our celebration of his treatment completion."

Make-A-Wish Greater Bay Area -- along with news outlets and spectators -- have been documenting the day through social media, using the Twitter hashtag #SFBatkid. Some of Make-A-Wish's photos follow below, and check back later with Comic Book Resources for a full report of Batkid's day in Gotham City.
