"Total Film" has revealed the cover to its next issue, which shines a spotlight on the post-apocalyptic action thriller "Mad Max: Fury Road,"  and the film's leads Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron.

While Hardy looks his usual rugged self, the image displays just how much of a transformation Theron has made to take on the role of Imperator Furiosa. Black makeup and an oversized cybernetic forearm render the Academy Award-winning actress nearly unrecognizable.

"Mad Max: Fury Road" marks the first new film in director George Miller's franchise since 1985's "Beyond Thunderdome." Miller has hesitated to call the film a reboot, instead focusing on it being another installment in the life of journeyman and ex-Main Force Patril officer Max Rockatansky, the role previously played by Mel Gibson.

Opening May 15, the film also stars Nicholas Hoult, Hugh Keays-Byrne, Nathan Jones, Zoë Kravitz, Riley Keough and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.
